Federal judge frees Michael Cohen from prison – and Bill Barr has a big problem
Earlier this week Michael Cohen filed suit in federal court, arguing that Bill Barr only threw him back in prison to try to block him from releasing his tell-all book about Donald Trump. Palmer Report pointed out that Cohen had a strong chance of winning, because Barr’s DOJ was dumb enough to ask Cohen to sign a document saying that he could stay out of prison if he didn’t publish the book.
Now it turns out the courts agree with our analysis, because Judge Alvin Hellerstein just ordered the immediate release of Michael Cohen from prison; he’ll be released by tomorrow. It’s not just that Cohen is once again a free man. He’s already tweeted that his book is essentially done, meaning it was going to be released whether he was in prison or not. It’s that now Cohen has a legal case he can pursue, and an amazing gift of free publicity.
Now that the courts have ruled that Bill Barr’s DOJ specifically targeted Michael Cohen for “retaliation,” it means Cohen can sue the crap out of Barr and walk away with a huge payday. It also potentially opens the door for additional criminal charges against Barr after Trump is gone, if it can be proven that Barr himself was behind the retaliation. And it means that Cohen gets to promote his book while talking about how Trump illegally tried to put him in prison just to block its publication.
