Michael Cohen is piling on, and Donald Trump is just sitting there like a bump on a log
This morning I wrote that I expected Michael Cohen’s testimony to be quite disciplined. In spite of all the media hype about how Cohen was supposedly going to lose the plot, the reality is that Cohen has testified against Trump plenty of times before – and he makes for a good solid witness. Sure enough, Cohen is indeed delivering rather clinical testimony so far today.
What is odd is that Donald Trump is just sitting there and taking it, instead of having his attorneys “fight back” with frivolous objections, like he had them do to Stormy Daniels last week.
It’s as if Trump is too worn out from his weekend rally to bother. Or, given Trump’s worsening dementia symptoms, perhaps he no longer remembers who Michael Cohen is. This is the same Trump who thinks Nikki Haley is Nancy Pelosi, thinks E. Jean Carroll is Marla Maples, and needed a card to remember the name of his kids. He also fist bumped Jeff McConney, who had just given damning testimony about him.
Trump doesn’t really seem to understand what’s going on in this trial or why he’s there. So it’s entirely plausible that he doesn’t recognize Cohen at all. We’ll see if Trump’s memory comes back to him as the day goes on. As of now he might as well be napping.
