How Michael Cohen got himself sent back to prison

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

We’ve been rooting for Michael Cohen to get his act together. He testified against Donald Trump when he was supposed to. He did time in prison. He’s been trying to turn things around. And even if you’re not rooting for him, he has an anti-Trump tell all book coming out in several weeks, which could help the Resistance. Unfortunately, Cohen apparently just got himself sent back to prison.

Days ago, the New York Post published photos of Michael Cohen dining out at a restaurant in New York City. This appeared to be a violation of his house arrest order. After all, he was only let out of prison early due to coronavirus fears. Now the Wall Street Journal says that Cohen was told that he had to agree to a strict set of rules in order to remain under house arrest, which would have prevented the release of his book. Cohen refused to agree to those rules, meaning he’s been taken back into custody.

So it sounds like Michael Cohen decided to go back to prison just so he could go ahead and publish his book, which he’s already written. Since it appears that the Feds were specifically trying to keep his book from coming out, Cohen can try to argue in court that he was being unfairly targeted, and that he should be released again. We doubt we’ve heard the last of this. But Cohen’s book should surface in September whether he’s still behind bars or not.
