Donald Trump celebrates immigration deal with Mexico that doesn’t exist
Donald Trump has always centered his political strategy around making racist and paranoid people afraid of Mexican immigrants, but that strategy hasn’t been working for him of late. His caravan nonsense resulted in severe losses for him and his party in the midterm elections. His wall is, obviously, never getting built. Now Trump is celebrating a new anti-immigrant deal with Mexico. The trouble: according to Mexico, no such deal exists.
Trump spent most of Saturday not tweeting anything at all, but he finally chimed in around 6pm eastern time. In a lengthy rant, he appeared to announce a new immigration and asylum deal between the United States and Mexico:
“Migrants at the Southern Border will not be allowed into the United States until their claims are individually approved in court. We only will allow those who come into our Country legally. Other than that our very strong policy is Catch and Detain. No “Releasing” into the U.S. All will stay in Mexico. If for any reason it becomes necessary, we will CLOSE our Southern Border. There is no way that the United States will, after decades of abuse, put up with this costly and dangerous situation anymore!” But not so fast, Donny.
The incoming regime in Mexico responded with this statement: “No agreement of any kind exists between Mexico’s future federal government and the United States of America.” In other words, Donald Trump is so desperate for a victory, he simply made one up – and now he’s being called out on it by his imaginary partner.
