Donald Trump is messing with the wrong people

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

If you’re in the process of being taken down, one valid strategy is to try walking away. Another valid strategy is to try to take down the people who are trying to take you down. Then there’s Donald Trump. Now that he’s deep into the process of being taken down by a number of adversaries, he’s decided that his best strategy is to take some other people down who don’t even really have anything to do with it, for reasons that presumably only make sense in his warped mind.

Who’s the most likely to take Donald Trump down first? Is it Special Counsel Robert Mueller? Is it Michael Avenatti? Is it the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York? We’re not entirely sure anymore. But we’re fairly certain Trump isn’t about to be taken down by some former Obama administration people who are no longer in government. Just don’t tell that to Donald Trump, who has decided to waste his limited remaining time and resources on messing with the wrong people.

Here’s what Trump tweeted about the matter: “I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes – and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!” Really? This is Trump’s big endgame? Strategically, he gains nothing at all by targeting the Obama Administration.

But in Donald Trump’s spitefully deluded mind, he’s most interested in messing with the people he blames for the fact that he got caught rigging the election. It’s also a reminder that he’s in far too weak of a position to go after the people who are trying to take him down, like Mueller and Avenatti. So instead he’s picking random scapegoats out of thin air, and it won’t help him one bit. He’s messing with the wrong people.
