Here’s just how messed up the Republican Party is right now

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

If you wanted to document everything that’s wrong with the Republican Party right now, you’d need to write several books. But if you really want to encapsulate just how messed up the party is, and how little long-term strategy is going into any of the desperate decisions the party has been making, you only need look at one utterly startling development.

We all understand, on some level, why certain Republican politicians are bringing in Donald Trump to host their rallies. Although Donald Trump is absolutely not the President of the United States and was never elected (conspiring with Russia to rig the election doesn’t count as being elected), he is currently holding the office of President of the United States. The Republicans in the most treasonous of pro-Trump, anti-American districts would be foolish not to consider taking advantage of a guy from their party who’s squatting as President. It’s morally abhorrent, but there’s some cold logic to it.

But then there’s the case of Donald Trump Jr. This is a guy who holds no office, and does not represent the United States or the Republican Party in any way. He’s just some schmuck with a name. He’s also a traitor, whose acts of treason against the United States are enthusiastically spelled out in his own emails. By the time the next election cycle rolls around, Donald Trump Jr will be serving a life sentence in prison. Even if Robert Mueller doesn’t get him, the state of New York will.

In fact the only reason Donald Trump Jr is still a free man, after having confessed to treason in writing, is that his father is currently (and illegally) occupying the office of President. That makes Junior a de facto fugitive from justice. The guy committed the worst crime you can commit against the United States; he simply hasn’t been arrested for it yet. This is a man who will go to prison for treason, and thirty or forty years from now, will die in solitary confinement.

Everyone in the Republican Party knows this. Yet quite a number of GOP candidates are using this traitor and fugitive from justice as a campaign surrogate anyway. Why? If the Democrats take the House, they’ll grease the skids for Mueller to take out dozens of Republican politicians – at the least – who illegally conspired with Trump and Russia, or knowingly took Russian money via the NRA, or other crimes. In other words, if the GOP fails in three days, there may not be a GOP in three years. No wonder they’re resorting to stumping with a traitor like Donald Trump Jr; they’ve got nothing to lose.
