Merrick Garland strikes back

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

It has been like a game of ping-pong with the Texas handmaid’s law. Thanks, Supreme Court! (Sarcasm.) First, the law was temporarily blocked. Then, of course, Texas requested a hold on the block! And they received it.

But now, the Department of Justice led by one Merrick Garland has submitted a legal briefing asking that the law not remain in effect during the legal appeals process. The Justice Department called this vile law “unconstitutional,” which it is.

This was a late-night filing by the Department of Justice made to the 5th circuit court of appeals, Monday night.

“If Texas’s scheme is permissible, no constitutional right is safe from state-sanctioned sabotage of this kind.” This is true. And now we wait to see what the court does. But even if we do not get the ruling we want, rest assured about one thing.

There is no way this will be allowed to stand long-term. I do have faith in Merrick Garland and the Justice Department. I know some of you have lost faith. I do hope that everyone can find their way to trusting Garland.

Look up his record on the Oklahoma City bombings. This man loves our country, and though I understand the frustration at how slowly the case against Trump is going, I believe with all my heart that Garland is and will continue to do right by the American people.
