Donald Trump launches into deranged meltdown about “shithole” scandal
Many Americans are spending Martin Luther King Day reflecting on his legacy, while many others are simply enjoying the day off. Donald Trump is doing neither. Instead he’s been sitting around huffing and puffing about the negative fallout from his racist “shithole” scandal, and now he’s finally erupting about it in public. He just launched into a deranged Monday afternoon Twitter meltdown about the scandal, taking a particularly weird shot at Senator Dick Durbin.
Durbin was the first attendee at the meeting in question to publicly confirm that Trump did indeed say he didn’t want immigrants coming from (black) countries like Haiti because they’re “shithole countries” and that he’d prefer immigrants from (white) countries like Norway. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who was also in the meeting, has since publicly confirmed it as well. Even Tom Cotton and David Perdue, the two racist Republican Senators in the meeting, have refused to outright deny that it happened. But now Trump is, predictably, attacking Durbin.
Trump just tweeted “Senator Dicky Durbin totally misrepresented what was said at the DACA meeting. Deals can’t get made when there is no trust! Durbin blew DACA and is hurting our Military.” Really? Dicky Durbin? This is how far Trump has fallen when it comes to making up juvenile and derogatory nicknames about the politicians he’s attacking? He was already getting weak when he settled for “Sneaky Dianne Feinstein” last week. Now he’s just yelling “Dicky” in the hope it’ll somehow resonate.
Donald Trump is also, of course, lying about how the DACA meeting played out. The Republicans and Democrats had already hammered out the framework of a bipartisan deal. It only fell apart because Trump drove a mentally deranged bulldozer through the entire process. It further underlines that America won’t be able to function until Trump is ousted from office.
