Roseanne has bizarre late night Twitter meltdown after her show is canceled

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Earlier today, after Roseanne Barr posted a blatantly racist tweet about Valerie Jarrett, comparing the African-American former Obama adviser to an ape, ABC quickly canceled her “Roseanne” show. As the day went on, various networks also pulled the plug on her reruns. Now she’s launched into a prolonged late night Twitter meltdown that’s so far over the top, we’re not even sure where to start.

Roseanne seemed to start off in the right place when she tweeted this: “Don’t feel sorry for me, guys!!-I just want to apologize to the hundreds of people, and wonderful writers (all liberal) and talented actors who lost their jobs on my show due to my stupid tweet.” Okay, so she was taking responsibility, and she understood the harm that her actions had caused to everyone involved. Then she began retweeting various people who suggested that Bill Maher was being racist when he compared Donald Trump to an ape. From there it got worse. Much, much worse – and frankly alarming.

After Roseanne posted a direct apology to Valerie Jarrett, she then began retweeting people who had called her a racist and a bigot. She also pushed back against some false claims being made about Jarrett by her own supporters, and then she urged her supporters not to retaliate against ABC. She then tweeted that she thought Jarrett was “Jewish and Persian” and not black, admitting that this was “ignorant” on her part. But then things got really weird.

After retweeting a number of black people who had criticized her, Roseanne Barr posted this distressing tweet: “I did something unforgiveable so do not defend me. It was 2 in the morning and I was ambien tweeting-it was memorial day too-i went 2 far & do not want it defended-it was egregious Indefensible.” That’s right, she’s blaming her racist tweet on her sleep medication. This prompted “Ambien” to begin trending on Twitter.

Roseanne’s problem here is that she’s been making racist and bigoted remarks about various ethnicities and religions for quite some time. She can’t pass this off as a one-time mistake, because it was far from a one-time deal. Blaming her own racism on her sleep medication fits right in with how far Trump’s supporters will go to pretend that their racist support of his racist words and policies somehow isn’t racist.
