Donald Trump has meltdown about Putin on eve of Russia summit

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Twelve of Vladimir Putin’s government spies were just indicted for hacking the Democratic Party during the election and funneling those secrets to a Donald Trump associate. If Donald Trump were smart, or aware of the gravity of the situation he’s in, or in control of himself, he would at least be trying to pretend that his meeting with Putin is above-board. Instead, Trump being Trump, he’s going off the deep end about the whole thing just ahead of the meeting.

For reference, here’s what Trump just tweeted about about summit: “Heading to Helsinki, Finland – looking forward to meeting with President Putin tomorrow. Unfortunately, no matter how well I do at the Summit, if I was given the great city of Moscow as retribution for all of the sins and evils committed by Russia over the years, I would return to criticism that it wasn’t good enough – that I should have gotten Saint Petersburg in addition!” He then went on to attack the media, the Democrats, and everyone but Putin. Then he made it even weirder.

France just won the World Cup, so here’s what Trump posted about it: “Congratulations to France, who played extraordinary soccer, on winning the 2018 World Cup. Additionally, congratulations to President Putin and Russia for putting on a truly great World Cup Tournament — one of the best ever!” That’s right, even while congratulating France, he’s finding a way to kiss Putin’s ass. Trump is desperate to curry favor with Putin, in the hope that Putin might be willing to help bail him out of his worsening scandals.

Donald Trump is clearly past the point of caring what you, me, or anyone else thinks about his allegiance to Vladimir Putin. Trump is so badly in need of Putin’s help, he must figure that if he doesn’t get it, he’s finished anyway. So he’s leaving all pretense behind, sidling up to Putin as blatantly as possible, and basically admitting he’s Putin’s puppet – all in the name of trying to get Putin’s help. The thing is, Trump is in so much trouble, it’s no longer clear that Putin can help him.
