Even as Donald Trump spent the weekend acting in deranged and disgusting fashion while John McCain’s funeral was playing out, Melania Trump didn’t publicly say a word about her husband’s behavior โ€“ at least not officially. However, in a trend that started with Aretha Franklin’s funeral the day before, Melania is continuing to speak indirectly to the media, and now she’s ripping Donald a new one.

Melania Trump keeps sharing her thoughts, through a friend, with entertainment industry publication Hollywood Life. To be clear, when it comes to public figures, the unnamed friend would never keep publicly putting these kinds of words in Melania’s mouth unless it was at Melania’s instruction. First Melania let it be known that she felt “humiliated” and “embarrassed” that multiple speakers at Aretha’s funeral made a point of calling out Donald Trump for being such trash. Then came the McCain funeral.

Now Melania โ€“ again, through the unnamed friend โ€“ is stating that she believes Donald “handled the McCain situation appallingly” and that he acted in “petty and insecure” fashion. This is about as close as Melania has come to publicly admitting that her husband is a psychotic monster. Her indirect remarks to the public about Donald are clearly escalating, and that escalation is happening in rapid fashion.

That said, as long as Melania Trump is limiting herself to having a friend relay her thoughts to an entertainment industry publication, she’s limiting the number of people who are going to hear those words, and she’s limiting the impact that her words are going to have. Melania won’t put a real dent in Donald Trump unless she grabs a microphone and says these words into the camera herself. Until that time, she remains complicit in Donald’s appalling behavior.
