Donald Trump tries to push back against his Meghan Markle scandal and finds a way to make it even worse
Ahead of his upcoming United Kingdom visit, Donald Trump has already managed to make a complete mess of things by saying “I didn’t know that she was nasty” in reference to royal family member Meghan Markle. There has been some debate as to the context, specifically whether he was accusing her of having made a “nasty” remark about him, or whether he was accusing her of being a “nasty” person. But really, that’s a thin hair to split – so naturally, Trump and his team managed to completely screw up trying to split that hair.
Donald Trump has a second, lesser-known official verified Twitter account called Official Trump War Room. This morning Trump and his people posted this tweet: “Fake News CNN is at it again, falsely claiming President Trump called Meghan Markle “nasty.” Here is what he actually said. Listen for yourself!”
This was a clear attempt at tricking the public into believing that Trump never made the “nasty” comment. But attached to the tweet was video of Trump saying the “nasty” comment. Suffice it to say that it didn’t go over well, and the Trump tweet ended up getting more negative comments than retweets, which is something of a difficult feat to pull off.
If anything, this attempt at muddying the waters has only served to give more attention to the fact that Donald Trump called Meghan Markle and/or her words “nasty.” In either context, it’s a ridiculously inappropriate remark for the President of the United States to make about a member of the royal family of a close U.S. ally. As per usual, Trump’s attempts at pushing back against his own scandal has made it even worse for him.
