Donald Trump tries to attack USA soccer star Megan Rapinoe, attacks some random woman instead, who fires back and gets the best of him
USA soccer star Megan Rapinoe is more popular than Donald Trump, and she’d do a better job as President of the United States than he’s done, meaning Trump is surely jealous of her already. So when she announced this week that she won’t visit Trump’s White House if her team wins the championship, suffice it to say that the thin-skinned Trump didn’t take it particularly well. But when he tried to fire back at her, everything went wrong for him that could go wrong.
For reference, here’s what Trump tweeted about Megan Rapinoe: “Women’s soccer player, @mPinoe, just stated that she is “not going to the F…ing White House if we win.” Other than the NBA, which now refuses to call owners, owners (please explain that I just got Criminal Justice Reform passed, Black unemployment is at the lowest level in our Country’s history, and the poverty index is also best number EVER), leagues and teams love coming to the White House. I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women’s Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job! We haven’t yet invited Megan or the team, but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose. Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!”
There’s so much wrong here, we’re not sure where to start. Large chunks of the World Series and Super Bowl winning teams have boycotted the White House out of disgust for Donald Trump, in addition to the NBA champions, so he’s just making things up here. Trump’s rant is also so confusing, it’s not clear if he understands that Megan Rapinoe is white, as he may have simply assumed she’s black due to her anthem protest. But the bigger flub here is that the above tweet was Trump’s second try; his first tweet tagged some random woman named @meganrapino instead.
At that point Megan Rapino, a private citizen with no connection to soccer start Megan Rapinoe, fired back at Donald Trump while defending her quasi-namesake: “and she was right to say so cry me a river plus this isn’t even her [account].” Rapino has since gained more than a thousand followers, and has been widely congratulated on Twitter for how she handled being dragged into Trump’s mess.
