Matt Gaetz makes a fool of himself over House committee assignments

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Picture yourself on a beach, and you find a stone. This stone is a faded pink and looks like it’s been there in the sand for eternity. But you decide to take it home and touch it up. So you clean it, shine and polish it, and suddenly, the old dusty looking stone is transformed into a gleaming and lustrous gem-like creation, sparkling brightly in its newness.

That stone can symbolize our party. This world has changed dramatically, and as it has done so, the Democrats have had to change and transform as well. We’ve had to learn new ways of handling conflict, of fighting for things that matter, and we’ve also had to adjust ourselves to new — and very often toxic –methods used by the other side.

One of those methods is playing itself out in front of us right now, and our non-friend Matt Gaetz is leading this new brand of toxicity. Gaetz, who will most likely be indicted soon, is demanding that all 13 Republicans who voted for President Biden’s infrastructure bill — lose their committee assignments.

Gaetz is particularly interested in getting GOP Representative John Katko removed from his leadership position on the Homeland Security Committee. It is difficult to believe that someone like the high-haired Gaetz — who has an FBI investigation for sex trafficking going on even has the nerve to VOICE this, but he has.

And many other GOP members agree with him. This goes back to adjusting to the toxic methods of the GOP. These people are now engaging in behavior that would never have been tolerated five or six years ago. The Republican party has always engaged in dirty tricks — one of the worst being what happened to John McCain in South Carolina. But we’ve never seen anything like this.

It is also worth noting that at the time of this writing, Gaetz has not said one damn word about the violent rhetoric of his partner in hate, Paul Gosar.

Gaetz will get his comeuppance. I’ve no doubt. But he is hardly the only one. They’re all over the place, and we’ve got to deal with them and develop new ways of fighting the hatred and the violence. It needs to be a priority. I doubt these 13 will lose their assignments, but just that one has to wonder AT ALL says so much.
