Matt Gaetz gives away that he knows it’s all over for him

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

If Matt Gaetz thought he had any hope of a future, he’d be acting in normal fashion (or whatever counts for normal on his side of the political fence these days). Instead he’s holding money-losing rallies with pariahs, casting votes in the House in favor of Putin, and now he’s purposely misspelling every other word in his formal announcements. This is not an attempt at keeping a career or a future on track. It’s pure trolling from someone who knows he has no career or future to keep on track.

Not only is Gaetz screwed in general, he’s screwing over the GOP by seeking reelection. It’ll force every House Republican in a swing district to answer for why the GOP hasn’t done anything about an alleged child sex trafficker within its own ranks. And when Gaetz gets indicted in the midst of the midterms, it’ll get infinite headlines, and it’ll be pure hell for the GOP.

Gaetz is in a far right district where the Republican wins automatically. This isn’t about his seat. It never was. The GOP leadership is certainly wishing Gaetz weren’t running, so it could instead quietly elect a House Republican in his district who’s not under DOJ investigation for heinous alleged crimes. Gaetz is a ticking time bomb for the Republicans, and they know it.

The very worst scenario for Republicans is if Gaetz gets indicted and then wins reelection anyway – which in his deranged far right district is certainly possible. Then the Republicans would have to move to expel Gaetz in order to make the bad headlines go away, which would only alienate what’s left of Trump’s base. It would be a lose-lose for the Republicans.

The defeatists on our side can’t sleep at night because they’re falsely convinced Gaetz and the GOP will somehow magic wand their way out of the mess that Gaetz is in. But in reality GOP leadership can’t sleep at night either, because it knows how much of a disaster Gaetz is for its midterm prospects.

Republican leadership is surely praying that Gaetz gets indicted very soon, and is denied bail. That way he’ll be physically removed from being able to campaign, and the GOP will have time to try to get him off the ballot and replace him with a different far right scumbag candidate, so the GOP can keep that seat without the explosively disastrous controversy that would come with a Gaetz victory.

If you’re rooting for the GOP to be screwed, then you’re rooting for the Gaetz indictment to happen right in the midst of the 2022 midterm cycle, when it’ll cause the most damage for the GOP. This DOJ will not time things with partisan considerations in mind. It’ll indict Gaetz once it reaches the threshold where it’s certain it’ll get a conviction at trial, no sooner, no later. But if it happens at the height of the midterms, it’ll be ideal for the Democrats.

Everyone in politics knows how a successful DOJ case is constructed, so everyone in politics knows that Matt Gaetz is going to be indicted and is on a path to prison. Gaetz knows it’s coming too; his behavior gives that away. It’s the Republican leadership who is rooting for Gaetz to be indicted sooner rather than later. But no matter when in this election cycle it happens, it’ll be a gift for the Democratic Party.
