Mark Meadows just lost in court – and made a HUGE mess for himself in the process

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

When Mark Meadows first filed a request to move his Fulton County criminal case to federal court, Palmer Report said that his odds of winning the request were small, and that the whole thing was likely to backfire on him. Sure enough, the courts have now rejected Meadows request, meaning he’ll be tried in Fulton County court after all. And it gets much worse for Meadows than that.

Even if Meadows had won this ruling, it still would have been a stupid risk for him. There wouldn’t have been all that much upside to being tried in federal court. And in order to even try to get this request granted, Meadows had to take the stand under oath. This means he locked himself into specific testimony, which he won’t be able to change at trial, even if his defense strategy changes. Worse for Meadows, he appears to have perjured himself during that testimony, meaning Fani Willis can now add perjury charges against him if she thinks they’ll stick.

When people like Mark Meadows make moves like this that are simply idiotic, the legal pundit community generally tries to act like there must be some kind of strategy in there. When I say that Trump and his goons are making these kinds of moves because they’re simply idiots, it always feels like I’m giving a glib non-answer. But then when you see how poorly these things always go for Trump and his goons, you see that the answer is indeed that they’re simply idiots. And that’s not going to change. The next ten moves these Trump and his goons make in court will also be idiotic and will also fail accordingly.
