Marjorie Taylor Greene just handed us a gift
Marjorie Taylor Greene says she doesn’t understand why anyone would join the United States military. In so doing, she’s disrespecting the U.S. military and the Americans who serve in it. Coming from her, nothing is a surprise. Because she’s in a far right district, she believes her own personal reelection prospects are immune to nationwide criticism – and she may be right. But when she says things like this about the military, she’s handing us a gift.
Voters in the middle hate it when either party is perceived to be disrespectful to the military. It’s why, whenever the Democrats call out the Republicans for starting fraudulent wars for personal profit, the Republicans respond by falsely characterizing it as the Democrats disrespecting the military.
Marjorie Taylor Greene anti-military position is eye popping. Accordingly, every Republican who’s up for reelection in 2022 should be forced to say whether or not they agree with her position. That’s particularly true of those Republicans in swing districts, where moderate voters decide who wins.
When it comes to someone like Marjorie Taylor Greene, or Lauren Boebert, or Matt Gaetz, or Madison Cawthorn, there are two approaches we can take. One is to sit back and complain about what a shame it is that they’re in Congress, which doesn’t accomplish anything. The other is to use the fact that they’re in Congress to make sure that other House Republicans in moderate districts lose their seats for refusing to properly condemn their antics. That’s how the win the midterms.
