Donald Trump tips off that a major bombshell is about to land
For all the various and important political storylines going on over the past week, there hasn’t been overriding narrative that’s dominated the headlines. Even Donald Trump seemed to have mentally checked out of late, not bothering with his once-regular Twitter meltdowns aimed at distracting from the day’s prevailing narrative. But then today suddenly everything changed.
Donald Trump woke up this morning and decided that he rather desperately needed to create a distraction, and a multifaceted one. He started off with a dishonest and racist tirade about the ethnicity of Senator Elizabeth Warren, which in itself wouldn’t have been a surprise. But then he just kept going, on other topics. Trump criticized President Obama. Then he threatened Honduras. Then he referred to Stormy Daniels as “horseface” while misspelling her name.” Then he attacked Trump-Russia figure Glenn Simpson, while also misspelling his name. Then he attacked Bruce Ohr and his wife.
You’d think Trump would have decided he’d created enough controversy after “horseface.” But this was one of those very rare days in which Trump fires off everything he has, in the hope of creating as many distractions as possible. He only does this when he’s learned that a major bombshell is about to land in one of his scandals, and he’s hoping to generate something that’ll compete with that bombshell for headline space and column inches during the next news cycle.
So what’s about to drop? Is the Saudi Arabia murder scandal about to land on Donald Trump’s head? Is this about Trump-Russia? Is one of his co-conspirators about to get indicted or arrested? We don’t know yet. But something has triggered Trump in a big way. Will it land tonight or tomorrow? Stay tuned.
