MAGA civil war boils over

Dear Palmer Report readers, this is an uncertain time so I'm asking for your help. If you can each contribute $5 or $25 or $75 – whatever matches your budget – to help with Palmer Report’s ongoing operating expenses, it’ll help a lot. Thank you so much. Contribute here. Much thanks, Bill Palmer

Even as various MAGA fiefdoms have turned against each other over the past several weeks, Donald Trump has continued to sit home and done nothing. Trump is showing everyone that he’s truly too far gone cognitively to lead his own movement, let alone understand what’s happening. Now Trump’s total lack of leadership is coming back to bite him.

Trump is siding, for now, with his latest sidekick Elon Musk. That’s going poorly, given that Musk screwed up congressional budget negotiations to the point that dozens of House Republicans ultimately voted against Musk’s legislation. Now Trump’s former favorite sidekick Steve Bannon is openly declaring war on Musk, vowing to oust him from Trump world imminently.

Of course Bannon is the king of empty talk. Remember when he announced he had raised an army of thousands of people? Where did they go? So this doesn’t mean that Bannon actually has a viable plan for taking Musk down. But when Trump hasn’t even taken office yet, and his top MAGA sidekicks like Bannon and Musk are already openly trying to destroy each other, the ugliness is just beginning.
