Donald Trump gives away that he knows he’s lost the battle

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

To hear Donald Trump tell it, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s public testimony went great for Trump today. The “witch hunt is over.” Impeachment is over. The Democrats are in “shambles.” The trouble for Trump is that these remarks are coming from places that simply don’t help him any.

Donald Trump’s “witch hunt is over” line came from his sycophant Sean Hannity. The line about the Democrats being in shambles came from Trump’s own mouth. Trump’s other quotes on Twitter tonight came from his House GOP allies and, in two instances, his own lawyers. None of these people have any influence outside of Trump’s own existing base of supporters.

The lone exception was when Donald Trump quoted liberal pundit Michael Moore, who claimed that Trump somehow magically won the day. But Moore has spent the past several years dishonestly attacking the Democrats in the hope of gaining progressive street cred, turning himself into a cartoon character in the process, and erasing any influence he once had.

What stands out here is who all Donald Trump isn’t quoting. The mainstream media has had various takes on Robert Mueller’s performance, not all of them positive. But outside of Trump’s existing supporters, and a few notorious attention-mongers, no one is pushing the notion that today somehow went well for Trump – because it didn’t.
