LORD OF THE LIES
remember as a child when I first saw the film “Lord of the flies.” I was shaken by it. I still am.
There are few movies better at exposing the vicious underbelly of group-think better than that film. The book was equally excellent.
The story was stark, haunting, and tragic. And it has retained its place in history as one of the greats.
And right now, we have a real-life Lord of the Flies playing out before our very eyes. I’ve said for quite a while now that I no longer view Donald Trump as the greatest existential threat to our democracy.
What I view as the most dangerous is what Trump birthed. And that “birth” is the populating of little-mini-Trumps.
We are currently overrun with them as, like the children in Lord of the Flies, they run amok, unfettered and savage, taking Trump’s corrosiveness and adapting it as their own.
And now it’s everywhere.
And this fact makes it all the more refreshing when people take notice. The media has been letting us down in that regard.
Not Jim Acosta. Acosta is a national treasure. I’ve written about him before, but this latest declaration needs to be front and center because he called it so well.
Acosta has declared Trump “Lord of the lies.”
I believe this is my favorite of any nickname I have heard for him.
But it’s more than a nickname. It’s a branding. And the reference to Lord of the Flies shows Acosta has his finger on the pulse. He knows bullshit when he sees it. The analogy is stunningly accurate.
Acosta has not stopped there. He is busy calling out what he has deemed the “swamp of lies” going on right now regarding voting rights.
He calls all of this out with courage and with virtually no attempt to both-sides-it.
So thank you, Jim. Thank you for shining an essential light on the lies and fabrications of the GOP. Here is hoping there is plenty more where that came from.
