Looks like Steve Bannon is jumping ship

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

After Mike Pence finally called out Donald Trump last week, Palmer Report noted that Steve Bannon seemed genuinely spooked in his subsequent podcast episode. Bannon accused Pence, his staff, and the Koch network of having “ratted” Trump out to investigators. It was as if Bannon realized that Trump is now so close to being finished off, the right wing political big money is looking to cut him loose, and Bannon feared being stuck on the wrong side of things.

So it’s notable that Steve Bannon has now told a book author that he believes Donald Trump was one of the worst Presidents ever. No, really. Bannon now says that only Millard Fillmore and James Buchanan might have been worse. Bannon and Trump haven’t exactly been best buds for the past couple years. But Trump did pardon Bannon for the “build the wall” scam on his way out of the White House, meaning they remained allies more so than enemies. Yet for some reason, Bannon is now totally throwing Trump under the bus.

Bannon has a long and consistent history of self destructing, so maybe we’re just seeing that play out yet again. But it could be that Bannon now realizes the right wing political brokers are moving on from Trump, and this is his way of trying to align himself with them. After all, recent reports have painted Bannon as being so broke, he had to resort to trying to take out a loan against a property owned by one of his charities, only for it to be revealed that the charity no longer even owns the property. The guy clearly needs a new right wing financier, and that’ll never be Trump.

Of course Steve Bannon’s bigger problem is that he’s already been criminally indicted for contempt of Congress, and the overwhelmingly detailed nature of the indictment suggests that the DOJ has been building a much broader criminal case against him. Bannon is looking at prison time – and his only realistic way out of it would be to flip on the entirety of Trump world.

So perhaps Bannon is now calling Trump one of the worst Presidents of all time, so he can use it as a justification to his own audience for why he’s about to flip on Trump. We’ll see. Bannon is roughly half as smart as he thinks he is, and has a real knack for sabotaging his own interests, so this could just be pure stupidity on his part as opposed to some kind of real plan to save himself. But either way, we’ve reached the point where even Steve Bannon is now slam dunking Donald Trump. It shows that Trump really is toast.
