Looks like Putin just gave up on Trump

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump has been publicly promising that if he gets back into power, he’ll immediately get Vladimir Putin to release American prisoner Evan Gershkovich. Trump seemed to think that this made it look like he has power over Putin, but in reality it just gives away that Putin has power over Trump.

But something remarkable just happened. Putin agreed to release Gershkovich to the Biden-Harris administration, along with other valuable prisoners including Paul Whelan and Vladimir Kara-Murza. Why would Putin cut such a deal with the United States now, rather than waiting another few months until his lackey Trump is in power? It’s clear that Putin no longer thinks Trump has a realistic chance of winning, and so Putin took the deal he could get.

In so doing, Putin just took Trump’s legs out. Trump looks like a buffoon now that Biden and Harris have secured Gershkovich’s release after Trump claimed only he could make it happen. Why would Putin do this? Because Trump is dead weight. Trump has only ever been useful to Putin in as far as Trump win in office or was potentially on his way back to office. And now Putin is clearly signaling that he expects Kamala Harris to defeat Trump.

Of course just because Putin is betting on Kamala Harris winning, it doesn’t mean we can afford to sit back and assume it’ll happen. We have to spend these final hundred days continuing to work our tails off with the same enthusiasm as the past ten days. But Putin’s move is the latest sign that Trump really is on a losing track.
