Looks like House Republicans are caving on Hunter Biden already

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

For the past year this Republican House has tried to make us believe that it was going to do all kinds of things. It was going to shut down the government, but instead it keeps caving. It was going to impeach President Biden, but instead it appears to be giving up on that as well. Now House Republicans are even backing down on the circus they’ve tried to create around Hunter Biden.

House Republicans subpoenaed Hunter Biden to testify, and he showed up to do so – but they refused to let him. Instead they insisted they were going to refer him to the DOJ for contempt of Congress. This never would have gone anywhere in the legal system, given that he did try to testify; the referral was merely going to be a political stunt.

But now House Republicans have decided to put the contempt referral vote on hold, so they can negotiate with Hunter Biden about his testimony. In other words, Republicans have figured out that making a legally worthless contempt referral against Hunter Biden, after he tried to comply, would play poorly in the media.

This doesn’t mean House Republicans have suddenly “grown a conscience” or any of that kind of thing. Rather they’ve simply accepting the reality that Hunter Biden outmaneuvered them. They’ll keep dishonestly going at him, because it’s who they are. But it looks like they’re caving on that whole contempt referral thing. This was supposed to be a big strategic plank for House Republicans, but like everything else they’ve tried, it’s fallen flat.
