Looks like Donald Trump is beating up Ron DeSantis for nothing
When Donald Trump recently began attacking Ron DeSantis, forcing DeSantis to begin attacking him in return, we presumed it was because the media’s ratings driven hype had fooled both these delusional clowns into believing they were viable 2024 candidates for President.
But when Trump and his people leaked yesterday that he’s not planning to run in 2024 if Biden’s approval rating is at 46% or higher, it made it pretty clear that Trump does not intend to run, and is instead merely laying the groundwork for having an excuse not to run. Instead he’s merely trying to make sure the media keeps hyping the false narrative that he’s going to run in 2024, so he can keep raking in quasi-campaign donations and putting them in his pocket.
What’s remarkable about this revelation is that it means Trump knows he won’t be facing off against DeSantis in 2024, and that he’s picked this fight with DeSantis solely to try to keep up the illusion he’s running in 2024. So all the damage Trump is doing to DeSantis right now, it isn’t even because he’s trying to get DeSantis out of the way. It’s just so Trump can make sure the media keeps talking about how he’s supposedly going to run in 2024.
Trump is going to leave DeSantis battered and weakened, simply because Trump currently needs a “2024 rival” to keep up appearances and keep the money coming in. Trump doesn’t care how much he harms DeSantis, because loyalty is a one way street for him. Some “friend.”
DeSantis, who has a political IQ of zero and lucked into his current job and is trying very hard to fumble it away, has got to be wondering how he now has the bad luck of being on Trump’s bad side. But when ambitious idiots rely solely on luck, it turns against them eventually.
We all wish the political media would just be honest. But since it’s not willing to do that, at least the fictional narrative it’s picked – Trump vs DeSantis 2024 – has the benefit of causing them to sabotage each other. At this rate DeSantis is in real danger in Florida in 2022.
DeSantis won by a tiny margin in Florida in 2018, and he’s been making a mess for himself ever since. He was always going to have a difficult time getting reelected in 2022. Now Trump is attacking him, and he’s having to attack Trump in return. DeSantis can’t win without Trump’s base. Democratic candidates like Nikki Fried and Charlie Crist must be thrilled.
Of course this means more work for us. Instead of just giving up on Florida in 2022, we’ll have to put in the work on things like the voter registration and outreach, because we have a realistic chance of winning. And we’ll have to stay focused and put in this work even as the media spends all year pretending Ron DeSantis’ 2022 reelection is inevitable, because it wants to keep the ratings-friendly DeSantis 2024 narrative alive. But Trump is now helping us in the effort to defeat DeSantis in 2022, because it happens to benefit his own narrative. Go figure.
