GOP implodes as House Republicans begin attacking Liz Cheney
Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney is every bit as much of a villain as her father. But unlike some of her House GOP colleagues, she’s not willing to support Donald Trump’s most deranged policies. She’s stood up to Trump on things like wearing a mask and pulling U.S. troops out of Europe. Yet Trump, seemingly scared of her, has remained quiet.
We’ve been wondering how long that would last. According to a stunning and lengthy Twitter thread from Politico reporter Melanie Zanona, this morning multiple Trump-aligned House Republicans began attacking Liz Cheney. The list of attackers included a who’s who of notorious bottom feeders: Matt Gaetz, Thomas Massie, Louie Gohmert, and Jim Jordan.
So this is where we’re at now. As Donald Trump makes one deranged and incoherent move after another, House Republicans are left trying to decide whether or not to defend the indefensible. Now the House GOP is coming apart at the seams over the singular question of how to handle Trump as he circles the drain. It couldn’t happen to a nicer party.
