Lindsey Graham, you just lost!
Senate Republicans used procedural moves to stall it out for as long as possible, but on Wednesday evening, the 2021 operating agreement finally went into effect. This means that at long last, Senate Democrats officially have the majority, and they now control every committee.
Notably, this means that Lindsey Graham is no longer the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. This means that Graham won’t be able to spend the next two years abusing his Chairman position to hold ludicrous hearings on phony Hunter Biden scandals. He won’t be able to abuse his position to sabotage President Biden’s judicial nominees. Instead Lindsey has been demoted to ranking member of the committee, which means he just gets to whine while Senate Democrats do whatever they want.
It’s worth noting that Lindsey Graham went out of his way to prop up Donald Trump’s false claims that he somehow secretly won the 2020 presidential election. There are a lot of people who think that Trump’s decision to drag that out was a factor in the Republicans losing the Georgia Senate runoffs, which in turn gave Senate Democrats the majority. So it’s possible Lindsey cost himself his Chairman position by stupidly remaining loyal to Trump, after Trump lost. That’s fitting.
