When it comes to going down with the sinking Donald Trump ship, Lindsey Graham is all in. After it was revealed this week that Trump tried to criminally conspire with the leaders of the UK and Australia to drum up election-altering conspiracy theories, Graham sent letters to both nations, urging them to go along with it. But even as Lindsey throws away his career and possibly his freedom for the greater good of Donald Trump, it turns out Graham thinks Trump has jumped the shark.

After a day in which Donald Trump’s impeachment defense strategy included curse words, alligators, and a failed attempt at quoting Robert De Niro, even the GOP thinks Trump is blowing this. House Republicans have admitted to The Hill that Trump has no playbook, and that he’s just “pulling it out of his ass” in the words of one of them.

It’s not surprising that numerous House Republicans are breaking away from Trump behind the scenes, as a few of them – most recently Adam Kinzinger and Fred Upton – have publicly begun breaking from Trump. We’ve also seen the ever opportunistic Republican Senator Chuck Grassley publicly defending the whistleblower. But Republican Senator Lindsey Graham is the most surprising person referenced in this story.

These same unnamed congressional Republicans are telling The Hill that even Lindsey Graham thinks Donald Trump’s impeachment defense has jumped the shark. Of course Lindsey thinks that Trump is only blowing it because he’s following Rudy Giuliani’s advice. But still, it’s remarkable that Graham admitting behind the scenes that his patron saint Trump is going off the rails.
