Donald Trump gets ripped to pieces over LGBT tweet

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Tomorrow marks the start of Pride Month, which serves as a reminder of how far LGBT rights have come in recent years, and how much more progress on that front is desperately needed. The last person who should be speaking up about Pride Month is Donald Trump, so naturally he did it anyway โ€“ and it went over about as poorly as expected.

For reference, here’s what Donald Trump tweeted: “As we celebrate LGBT Pride Month and recognize the outstanding contributions LGBT people have made to our great Nation, let us also stand in solidarity with the many LGBT people who live in dozens of countries worldwide that punish, imprison, or even execute individuals on the basis of their sexual orientation. My Administration has launched a global campaign to decriminalize homosexuality and invite all nations to join us in this effort!”

This would be entirely the correct message, if it weren’t coming from a president whose administration has tried to turn back the clock on LGBT rights. The pushback arrived quickly. For instance, Pastor John Pavlovitz posted this in response: “Except your VP believes they can pray the gay away, your Evangelical bedfellows want to drive them from the planet, and your Administration is systematically taking away their rights to work, adopt, and get partner benefits. But sure, yay Pride Month!”

Donald Trump’s tweet went over so poorly, he ended up receiving more comments โ€“ nearly all of them negative โ€“ than likes. Actor and activist George Takei summed it up best by tweeting this succinct message to Donald Trump: “How dare you.”
