Let’s not forget that Liz Cheney knows what she’s doing

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Liz Cheney is trying to flush Trump and his allies out of the party so she can be the Republican presidential nominee in 2024 or 2028. More power to her. But now that she’s lost her primary, which she wasn’t seriously trying to win anyway, can we skip treating it like a funeral and acknowledge the calculated reality of what she’s obviously doing?

If anything, this “Liz Cheney, martyr” narrative doesn’t give her enough credit. She’s a lot smarter than that. But painting her as a defeated martyr is what will drive ratings this cycle, so that’s how the media is going to portray this, even though they know it’s not that.

Will Liz Cheney’s long term plan work? No way for us, or her, to know. And you do not want her as President, so at some point you won’t be rooting for her plan to succeed. But that’s down the road. For now let’s at least acknowledge that her current strategy is indeed a strategy, not some dead ended self sacrifice.

Adam Kinzinger is coming closer to martyrdom. But even he will now get to choose between a think tank job, lobbying job, or cable news job – any of which will pay him handsomely. And more power to him.

By the way, thanks to her work on the January 6th Committee, Liz Cheney will now have more of a voice in politics over the next couple years than if she hadn’t been on the committee and had kept her House seat. Any time she grabs a microphone, the media – on the left and right – will cover it. Again, more power to her. But let’s not forget that she knows what she’s doing with this.
