Lawrence O’Donnell just nailed it
Donald Trump really wants everyone to believe he’s contesting the election, so he can use it as an excuse to keep fundraising. Mitch McConnell really wants everyone to believe he’s on board with it, so everyone will be too distracted to fight and win in the Georgia Senate runoff races. Bill Barr wants everyone to believe that his latest press release of a “probe” means something.
But none of this is real. These people are just playing games. They all know that it’s literally, laughably impossible to overthrow the election result, or just magically remain in office. Fortunately, Lawrence O’Donnell used his MSNBC show tonight to spell this out as clearly as possible.
O’Donnell said this of Trump and his cohorts: “Watch what they do, and they are actually doing nothing. So it’s over.” He went on to point out some of the same things that Palmer Report has been spelling out: Trump is just making a final cash grab. Barr and Mike Pompeo are just vaguely fishing for pardons. None of this is real.
Lawrence O’Donnell did point out that Donald Trump and his people could end up leaving things in quite ugly condition when they do leave, “like a rock band checking out of a hotel.” But hotels can always be put back together after the rock star has smashed some things up. President-elect Joe Biden will hit the ground running, with or without Trump’s blessing.
