Donald Trump has late night meltdown after James Comey memos backfire on him

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Remember when Republicans in Congress thought they could smear James Comey and help Donald Trump by forcing the release of the memos that Comey wrote about his interactions with Trump? As it turns out, not so much. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein finally released the memos, but he redacted them so as not to harm ongoing criminal investigations against Trump and his associates. In general the memos paint Trump as a raging maniac who committed crimes on a historic scale. Trump isn’t taking the news particularly well.

Trump jumped on Twitter at nearly midnight to declare that the memos somehow proved his innocence. He tweeted “James Comey Memos just out and show clearly that there was NO COLLUSION and NO OBSTRUCTION. Also, he leaked classified information. WOW! Will the Witch Hunt continue?” To be clear, the memos make clear that Trump committed severe obstruction. They also reveal that there was a FISA surveillance warrant against Michael Flynn while he was working for Trump, because yes there was collusion and worse with the Russians. And Comey didn’t leak any classified information.

It’s the fact that Trump was tweeting about this memo at all, in the middle of the night, that raises eyebrows. As he gets marched an inch closer to prison each day, he’s reduced to frantically trying to spin an alternate reality for his remaining support base. The remarkable part is that he’s still trying to win this fight in the court of public opinion, even as the battle has moved firmly into a court of law.

To that end, Donald Trump has made arguably the stupid move he could ever think of today by hiring his criminal co-conspirator Rudy Giuliani as his attorney. This comes even as his longtime attorney Michael Cohen is making moves which suggest he’s considering cutting a plea deal against Trump. No wonder Trump is shouting nonsense into the abyss in the middle of the night.
