Donald Trump goes on bizarre late night rant about Brett Kavanaugh

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. The Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court nomination is a smashed up car hurtling down the track with pieces falling off and flames shooting out of the engine, desperately trying to make it across the finish line before the whole thing goes down in flames. Will it succeed? Will it fail? None of us have any way of knowing for certain.

Some of the most pro-Kavanaugh Republicans in the Senate are suddenly unable to publicly get their story straight about when to hold the vote, whether to make the report public, and whether Kavanaugh should have been the nominee at all. Mitch McConnell is making the only move he has left, which is to try to race to a vote, even though he has no idea if he even has the votes, before his odds get even worse. This whole thing is a mess, and everyone on both sides knows it. Except, apparently, Donald Trump.

Here’s what Trump tweeted tonight: “Wow, such enthusiasm and energy for Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Look at the Energy, look at the Polls. Something very big is happening. He is a fine man and great intellect. The country is with him all the way!” Wow. Where do we even start with this? Trump seems to be basing this solely on the responses from his extremist supporters at his rallies, who cheer on every word of praise he heaps on Kavanaugh.

But back in the real world, multiple polls show that Brett Kavanaugh has the lowest approval rating of any Supreme Court nominee in the history of polling. Even past nominees who were ultimately withdrawn didn’t have poll numbers this upside-down while their nominations were falling apart. When Donald Trump says “look at the polls,” perhaps he’s the one who should take a look at them.
