Donald Trump just called Nancy Pelosi in a last ditch effort to stop impeachment – and it failed

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

As the news cycle played out last night, it became clear that House Democrats were very likely to end up announcing Donald Trump’s impeachment today. Today’s news cycle has made clear that this is indeed about to happen any minute now. Interestingly, it turns out Trump called Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi today in a last ditch effort to stop impeachment – and that effort failed.

Nancy Pelosi revealed today that Donald Trump called her today to try to make some kind of deal on gun control policy, according to Kyle Cheney of Politico. It was fairly obvious that Trump was hoping that if he offered to give Pelosi a victory on a key Democratic Party issue, she might decide not to go through with impeachment. But at this point impeachment has to happen, and Trump can’t be trusted on gun control legislation anyway.

Sure enough, shortly after the news of this phone call broke, Donald Trump posted this tweet confirming that his effort to sway Nancy Pelosi didn’t go anywhere: “The Democrats are so focused on hurting the Republican Party and the President that they are unable to get anything done because of it, including legislation on gun safety, lowering of prescription drug prices, infrastructure, etc. So bad for our Country!”

So there you have it. Now that Nancy Pelosi and the House are moments away from announcing that they’re formally impeaching Donald Trump, all he’s got left is to yell around about how nothing is going to get done if the focus is on his impeachment. But nothing was going to get done anyway, as long as Trump is occupying the Oval Office. So here we go with impeachment.
