Donald Trump’s Labor Day from Hell

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Welcome to Labor Day, the annual holiday in which we’re supposed to celebrate the American worker and the accomplishments of the labor movement. That’s a pretty bleak task at a time when Donald Trump and the Republican Congress are using tax scams to tilt the economy even further in favor of the wealthy elite (screwing over most of Trump’s own base in the process), and canceling scheduled federal employee raises. But if laborers are having a pretty awful Labor Day in 2018, Trump is having an even worse one.

If Donald Trump has gotten over just how poorly this weekend’s John McCain and Aretha Franklin funerals went for him, he’s probably trying to figure out if he can tweet-rant his way out of the fact that GOP operative Samuel Patten just cut a plea deal and confessed to having pumped Kremlin money into the Trump inaugural committee. Trump probably hasn’t figured out that because Patten was criminally pursued for his lies to Congress, it means a whole lot of his own people – including Donald Trump Jr – are facing the same fate. That’s just the half of it.

George Papadopoulos is sentenced to prison this Friday, meaning he’ll join Paul Manafort as yet another Trump campaign adviser behind bars. More importantly, we’re about to find out why Papadopoulos made the last minute move of incriminating Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions in his court filings for the sentencing hearing. This Friday we’ll also see Randy Credico testify against Roger Stone before Robert Mueller’s grand jury, and best we can tell, Credico is either last or second-to-last witness before Mueller has Stone indicted and arrested.

But those are merely Donald Trump’s criminal problems. On the home front, Melania Trump is now publicly talking about divorcing him, through a thinly veiled intermediary. Ivanka Trump’s inappropriate decision to attend John McCain’s funeral is continuing to turn her into even more of a pariah. And in a bit of potential foreshadowing when it comes to the Trump family’s own fate, Paul Manafort’s daughter just filed to legally change her name in the hope of distancing herself from the Trump-Russia scandal. Not only is Donald Trump having a terrible Labor Day, it could be the last one he spends outside of a prison cell.
