Kurt Volker just threw Donald Trump under the bus

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Last week Rudy Giuliani tweeted out a text message exchange he’d had with State Department Envoy Kurt Volker, in a seeming attempt at spreading the blame for the Trump whistleblower scandal. Less than a day later, Volker either resigned or was fired. Today Volker is testifying behind closed doors in the House impeachment inquiry, and some pieces of his testimony are already leaking out to the media.

To give you an idea of just how nervous Rudy Giuliani was of Kurt Volker’s testimony, Rudy spent the morning tweeting even more text messages between himself Volker, and the Ukrainian President’s chief of staff. This didn’t stop Volker from testifying, of course. NBC News is reporting that Volker has testified that he repeatedly tried to warn Rudy not to approach Ukraine over the Biden matter. But then it got worse.

ABC News now says Volker has provided text messages during his testimony which show that one Trump State Department official objected to the entire thing, saying “I think it’s crazy to withhold security assistance for help with a political campaign.” That’s right, one of Trump’s own top people knew exactly what this scandal was about, and he tried to sound the alarm about it.

In other words, even with just a few details having leaked out thus far from Kurt Volker’s testimony, it’s already clear that Donald Trump and Rudy Giuliani are going squarely under the bus. This also sets up a situation where the State Department official who sent the text message, Bill Taylor, will immediately be subpoenaed to testify as well. Considering Taylor has been opposed to this scheme from the start, there’s a good chance he’ll defy Mike Pompeo’s order and go ahead and testify.
