Key defendant throws Donald Trump under the bus in Fulton County criminal case
Eight is enough, right? Fulton County DA Fani Willis just cut immunity deals with eight fake electors in her criminal probe into Donald Trump and his co-conspirators. But now it looks like she has more than eight aces up her sleeve, so to speak.
Georgia Republican Party Chairman David Shafer is not one of the people who have cut immunity deals with the DA. Instead he’s a medium sized fish who’s very much at risk of being criminally indicted in the probe. Now Shafer is formally arguing that he shouldn’t be charged because he was merely following the orders of Trump and Trump’s lawyers.
This is a big deal because even though Shafer isn’t known to be cooperating with the DA in any way, he did just hand the DA an even stronger case against Trump. When Trump is on criminal trial for this, the DA can now argue that Trump didn’t just directly commit election crimes, he abused the power of his office to get others within his party to commit election crimes as well.
This also serves as a reminder that for all the dozens of criminal targets who will end up indicted in the Fulton County probe, Donald Trump is the target. He’s the one who orchestrated the entire criminal plot from top to bottom. Not only have eight of the fake electors formally agreed to testify against him, now the Georgia GOP Chairman is explicitly stating Trump’s guilt in an attempt at getting himself off the hook. Trump’s odds of being convicted at trial just keep going up – and this is a conviction that would put him in prison for a very long time.
