One of Donald Trump’s key allies has finally had enough of Trump’s crap

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

With each passing day, we see a new poll which helps confirm that Donald Trump is in bad and worsening shape for the 2020 election. Trump can’t get reelected with just his base, and the numbers say that he’s losing his non-base supporters. But is it possible that he might also lose his base, due to sheer exhaustion?

Let’s ask Michael Savage. If you’ve never heard of him, you’re probably better off. He’s a far-right radio host, and let’s just say that he doesn’t deal in reality. But he is a good barometer of how Donald Trump’s far-right base sees things. It turns out Trump’s near-constant worsening controversies and hijinks have simply left Savage worn out.

Michael Savage let loose with his frustration this week, as documented by Right Wing Watch. He insisted that Donald Trump isn’t nearly as good or bad, or as important, as everyone on both sides makes him out to be. Savage proclaimed, “I can’t take any more of this Trump business.” He then told his audience that “If you’re going to call and tell me that you believe in Trump, please, I don’t want to hear it.”

Savage still says he’ll reluctantly vote for Trump over someone like Elizabeth Warren. But the point is that Savage, being an overtly political creature by nature, he’ll actually show up and vote. How many rank and file members of Trump’s base are just as exhausted by Trump’s antics as Savage is, and aren’t going to show up to vote? The election is still a very long way away, but Trump has a real problem right now.
