Kevin McCarthy is screwing this up even worse than we thought
House Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is rapidly proving that he’s completely in over his head. He’s causing harm not only to the nation, but also specifically to his own caucus. He forced House Republicans to take sides in a damaging vote over Marjorie Taylor Greene, because he didn’t have the guts to take action. Now it turns out McCarthy is screwing things up with Liz Cheney as well.
In an attempt at not having to take action against Liz Cheney, Kevin McCarthy privately urged her to publicly apologize for voting to impeach Donald Trump, according to a surreal new report from Axios. Cheney was never, ever going to do this, as that kind of rapid flip flop would have spelled the end of her political ambitions.
But McCarthy is apparently too stupid to understand this kind of thing, so he begged Liz Cheney to apologize to Trump, so that others in the House Republican caucus wouldn’t be mad at her anymore. Kevin McCarthy is a child playing on an adult stage. He’s getting eaten alive by both wings of his party all at once. The odds of him still being the Republican House leader by the end of this term are dropping.
