Kevin McCarthy hits the panic button as January 6th Committee closes in

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is now explicitly threatening legislative retaliation against any telecom companies that comply with the January 6th Committee’s subpoenas for House Republican phone records. McCarthy is adding that “A Republican majority will not forget.” This might be the dumbest thing McCarthy has said yet.

Not only is Kevin McCarthy giving away his own guilt by threatening telecom companies over January 6th phone records, he’s also opening himself up to felony obstruction of justice charges, and it’s not going to work anyway. This guy is an idiot in every possible sense of the word.

We’re not the only ones who see it this way. Congressman Ted Lieu referenced 18 U.S. Code § 1505 which says that “Whoever…by any threatening letter or communication…endeavors to influence, obstruct, or impede…the due and proper exercise of the power of inquiry under which any…investigation is being had by either House…Shall be fined under this title, imprisoned…”
