Donald Trump’s stooge Kevin McCarthy goes completely off the rails

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump isn’t just on track to lose the election in 47 days. He’s on track to lose badly enough to cost a bunch of Republicans their seats in the process. It’s too late for House Republicans to throw Trump overboard (they had their chance), so now they’re stuck on his sinking ship, and they’re resorting to some pretty bizarre panic drills in the name of trying to stop the bleeding.

For instance, some House Republicans have now decided to try to take over the House before the election. That’s not a real thing when you don’t have a majority, of course. So the Republicans have decided to try to convince a chunk of House Democrats to ditch Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House, and replace her with Kevin McCarthy instead. No really, they’re actually planning to try this.

To be clear, this plan has literally zero chance of working. Not 0.1%, but 0.0%. House Democrats are not going to magically install a Trump-aligned Republican as Speaker of the House before the election, just because he asks nicely. This is such a hilariously quixotic idea, it’s how you know they have no plan at all.

Congressman Eric Swalwell responded to the news appropriately: “I’m dying. Kevin McCarthy? THAT Kevin McCarthy, is going to lead a coup? If you’ve ever listened to him, you’d know he couldn’t lead a bake sale. Actually, he couldn’t spell ‘bake sale’. It’s too rich.”
