Donald Trump just got his ass handed to him in Kentucky

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

To give you an idea of how much damage Donald Trump has done to the Republican brand across the nation, Republican Governor Matt Bevin found himself in danger of losing his reelection bid this week in the deeply red state of Kentucky. To give you an idea of just how toxically radioactive Trump has become, he tried to help Bevin – and it ended up backfiring.

Donald Trump held a rally in Kentucky this week in support of Matt Bevin’s campaign, in the hope of putting Bevin over the top. Sure, Trump’s ghoulish supporters turned out for the rally and cheered like idiots. But even as Trump went all-in for Kentucky, including multiple all-caps tweets over the past forty-eight hours, Republican Matt Bevin has lost tonight. This is according to Decision Desk, Redistrict, and others who have already called the race tonight (Update, 9:18pm – MSNBC has also now called it). Not only did Bevin lose, he performed worse than the polls had been predicting – which suggests that Donald Trump’s last minute rally may have actually cost him votes.

Democratic candidate Andy Beshear’s victory tonight is certainly not unprecedented in Kentucky, where the Republican Party is on the far right and the Democratic Party is closer to the middle in order to account for the state’s overwhelmingly conservative leanings. But it’s nothing short of stunning to see a sitting President of the United States try and fail to put an incumbent Governor from his own party over the top in a state that leans heavily toward his party.

This is a huge victory for the people of Kentucky, who will see their health care and voting rights improve immediately, and will benefit economically as Beshear begins vetoing the anti-working-class policies coming from the Kentucky state legislature. This is also a massive defeat for Donald Trump, who can’t seem to make anything anymore.
