Donald Trump just made the Kellyanne Conway – George Conway debacle even worse for himself
No one is really sure what to make of the bizarre saga in which Donald Trump keeps getting publicly criticized by George Conway, the husband of Trump’s White House senior adviser Kellyanne Conway. For starters, all three of them seem too cartoonish in nature to even be real people. And no one even wants to know why Kellyanne and George are married. But now Trump has gone and made it worse.
George Conway’s ongoing attacks on Donald Trump have gotten a smidgeon of media coverage here and there, but they’ve often gotten lost in the wash of even more absurd Trump headlines. Up to now, Trump has largely kept quiet about it, perhaps because he didn’t want to give George a platform, or perhaps because he didn’t want Kellyanne to be stuck in the middle, if such rational thoughts on Trump’s part are even possible. But now that’s changed.
After George Conway flatly stated yesterday that Donald Trump is too mentally deranged to continue serving as president, Trump’s 2020 campaign chairman Brad Parscale fired back at him. Parscale wouldn’t have dared to do something like this unless Trump told him to do it, and here’s what Parscale said: “We all know that Donald Trump turned down Mr. Kellyanne Conway for a job he desperately wanted. He barely worked the Justice Department and was either fired/quit, didn’t want the scrutiny? Now he hurts his wife because he is jealous of her success. POTUS doesn’t even know him!”
We don’t know, or care, how much or little of this is true. What does matter is that Donald Trump has given a whole lot more attention and heft to George Conway’s words by having such a top surrogate fire back in such direct and vicious fashion, and then retweeting this morning and adding that George was a “A total loser!” To whatever extent the Kellyanne-George debacle is humiliating and/or problematic for Trump, he just made it even worse for himself.
