Kayleigh McEnany just stepped in it
Donald Trump’s various White House Press Secretaries haven’t exactly been a bunch of winners. Sean Spicer is best remembered for lying about crowd size. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is best remembered for being even worse than Spicer. There was one after them who never did a single briefing. Now Trump’s fourth Press Secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, is proving she’s not any good at this either.
Kayleigh McEnany’s job is to paint Donald Trump’s unqualified, illegitimate and deranged Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett as if she were legitimate and respectable. And of course if you work for Trump, your unofficial job is to tell as many lies as possible. But they’re supposed to be the kinds of lies you can get away with.
That brings us to McEnany’s press briefing today, where she falsely claimed that Amy Coney Barrett is a “Rhodes Scholar.” Instead, Barrett merely attended Rhodes College, a school in Tennessee which has nothing to do with the Rhodes Scholarship program at Oxford. It’s not clear if McEnany was lying, or if she’s just that stupid. When a reporter pointed it out, McEnany was forced to admit that what she said was false.
So many people are making fun of Kayleigh McEnany right now, with so many jokes about mistaking “Rhodes Scholar” for other similar sounding things, the state of “Rhode Island” has begun trending.
