Kamala Harris takes a blowtorch to Mitch McConnell

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell keeps publicly threatening to hold a sham impeachment trial with no relevant witnesses and an automatic acquittal. He’s also previously threatened to hold a comprehensive and grueling trial that would run six days a week. He’s clearly just throwing things at the wall. But the mere threat of running a sham trial has been enough to offend a whole lot of people.

It turns out Democratic Senator Kamala Harris is one of them. She’s ripping into Mitch McConnell in a new op-ed today in the New York Times, accusing McConnell of being “more interested in covering up the president’s misconduct than in pursuing truth and fairness. He is already trying to limit the impeachment trial by preventing witnesses from testifying, and he has all but announced a verdict.”

But she’s doing more than just beating up on McConnell for being such a villain. She’s using her op-ed to try to place pressure on a certain handful of Republican Senators from moderate states who could end up losing reelection in 2020 if they’re seen as being complicit in Trump’s crimes: “Fortunately, Mr. McConnell does not have the power to unilaterally undermine this trial. Every single senator will be empowered with an equal vote on how the trial will proceed.” Read the whole thing here.
