Now that VP Kamala Harris has the popular momentum and the fundraising momentum in the 2024 election, that leaves the third key indicator of momentum: the polls. Earlier this week Harris pulled ahead of Donald Trump by four points in the Reuters poll. Then another poll showed them tied.

But now yet another national poll, this one from the New York Times of all places, has Kamala Harris one point ahead of Trump. That’s the slimmest margin possible. But keep in mind that this same New York Times poll showed Trump comfortably ahead of President Biden earlier this month.

What we’re now seeing is that in addition to the popular momentum and the fundraising momentum, Kamala Harris clearly has polling momentum as well. But we’re still going to need to see more national polls updated for the Harris-Trump matchup before we can seriously say whether or not Harris has taken the lead overall. Being ahead in two new polls is great. But you want to see Harris ahead in the overall polling averages before definitively saying she’s ahead.

In the meantime let’s keep the momentum going. This has been an amazing, unprecedented, feel good kind of week. But it’s only one week. We still have another roughly hundred days to go. If we want to win, we have to keep this momentum going. That means speaking loudly and proudly about Kamala Harris. It also means that it’s time for you to make your own personal plan for how you’re going to influence the election by volunteering, donating, door knocking, phone banking, or working on a voter registration drive. Kamala can’t do this by herself. You and I have to do our parts. Now let’s go win this!
