Fortunately for Donald Trump, smart and savvy former prosecutor Kamala Harris is no longer running for president against him. Unfortunately for Trump and his allies, Harris is still very much in the mix when it comes to taking Trump down. We were reminded of this today when Harris got her turn to speak during today’s Senate Judiciary Hearing, featuring Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz.

While the Republican Senators on the committee used their allotted time to insist that Horowitz’s report somehow didn’t say what it actually said, Kamala Harris took things in a sharply different direction. She zeroed in on the fact that Horowitz, despite his Inspector General position, is currently legally prohibited from investigating the corrupt antics of Attorney General Bill Barr.

Senator Harris got Horowitz to offer his enthusiastic support for her proposed legislation that would allow him to launch an investigation into Bill Barr. While it’s doubtful that such legislation would get past the current Republican Senate, Harris nonetheless managed to call direct attention to the fact that Barr is a corrupt criminal whose actions need to be investigated.

We believe Kamala Harris is helping the Democrats to lay the groundwork for impeaching Bill Barr. Two weeks ago we pointed out that it appeared new House Oversight Committee Chair Carolyn Maloney may have been taking the first steps toward setting up Barr’s impeachment. Now it looks like Harris is pushing things further in that direction. By establishing the absurdity of the fact that the DOJ isn’t allowed to investigate Barr’s crimes internally, it helps establish that impeaching Barr is the only remedy. Stay tuned on this front.
