Last night we saw two of the strongest 2020 Democratic presidential candidates going at each other in less than cheerful fashion. There have been a million hot takes on the exchange. The bottom line is that Joe Biden is still the clear frontrunner in the polls, and Kamala Harris is now clearly on the rise โ€“ and they each have more to say than merely about each other.

In fact the two candidates both turned their attention to a subject where they have very similar views: LGBT rights. Kamala Harris posted this tweet: “Fifty years ago today when Stonewall Inn was raided, brave LGBTQ+ New Yorkers โ€” led by trans women of color โ€” stood up and fought back. We must continue to speak truth today that transphobia and homophobia are real in our country, but we will leave no one to fight alone.”

Joe Biden posted this tweet: “Today marks 50 years since the Stonewall uprising, where those brave individuals took a stand on Christopher St and changed our world forever. We must continue our fight for full LGBTQ equality until everyone is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.”
