Kamala Harris is quietly getting it right in the swing states
We’re now watching Donald Trump implode on a level never before seen in a presidential general election. Trump is too far gone cognitively to be able to present himself as an even semi-viable candidate, and in his cognitive absence, his campaign people aren’t showing any competence either. But this article isn’t about Trump. It’s about Kamala Harris.
Even as Trump continues to spend every day blowing it, Kamala Harris is nailing it. That may sound like an overly simplistic framing. But if you look at how Harris and her campaign are operating right now, it’s objectively true. They’re getting everything right.
Kamala Harris is in the states she should be in. She’s doing smart local press while she’s there. She’s using her running mate and her other surrogates in the other most important states. At the presidential campaign level, this kind of competence is expected. But given that we’re only seeing that competence on one side, and total incompetence on the other side, it’s worth highlighting.
By the way, the reason you haven’t been hearing much from Kamala Harris on a national level over the past week is that she’s been focused on local events and local media. With two weeks left in a presidential race, that’s how you do it. You dive into the swing states just before voter registration deadlines come and go. Then in the final stretch you shift back toward more of a national focus, when the goal goes from voter registration to voter turnout.
But even as Kamala Harris and her campaign are getting very little attention from the national political media right now, instead preferring to show Trump setting himself on fire each day, rest assured that Harris is doing things the right way. The smart way. The savvy way. She’s doing her part. Sign up to help her out if you can.
