We’re still a very long way away from the 2020 presidential election, and yet the field is already beginning to sort itself – at least as far as initial impressions go. Based on early enthusiasm, both online and at her real-world campaign events, it’s fair to say that Democratic Senator Kamala Harris has emerged as the de facto frontrunner for now. In fact she just picked up another endorsement.

Newly elected Democratic Congresswoman Katie Hill is throwing her full support behind Harris, tweeting this: “Proud to announce my full support of Kamala Harris for President. She has the vision, strength and values to move our nation forward and I look forward to continuing our work together to put the American people first.” This comes one day after influential Democratic Congressman Ted Lieu announced that he was endorsing Harris as well.

Of course it’s still very early. For instance, former Vice President Joe Biden hasn’t yet announced whether he intends to enter the 2020 race. If he does launch a campaign, it could certainly shake up the 2020 landscape overnight. But for now it’s all about Kamala Harris, and to an extent Elizabeth Warren, with the other candidates not faring nearly as well out of the gate.

Julian Castro and Kirsten Gillibrand have a fair amount of name recognition in politics, but they’ve each struggled to gain early traction. Tulsi Gabbard, a Democrat in name only, is already seeing her controversial campaign fall apart. But there are still quite a number of debates, town halls, and televised events between now and the Iowa Caucus, which is a year away. We also have yet to see how the inevitable downfall and removal of Donald Trump will impact the nation’s mood with regard to the 2020 election.
